Press for Book/Paper Making.

Description

I made this press for papermaking so it is absolutely waterproofed. It is made of 1.5" Baltic fir covered with several coats of resin.
The base measures 24" x 15" and the  pressing area is 19.5" x  14.5". Beneath the wooden pressing plate is a waterproofed plywood plate on which to place the material to be pressed and then beneath that is a heavy gauge metal plate. The screw provides great pressure, enough for pressing paper, books, flowers etc. The screw moves freely and there is a rod that inserts for turning. The 4 supporting columns consist of threaded steel rods inside a copper sleeve. If you wanted to reduce the distance from top to pressing plate you would just need to cut some off the sleeve.
The details of construction make this press ideal for couching large sheets when making paper but it is versatile enough to then turn around and use it as a book press.
This item is solid and heavy. It takes both my wife and I to lift it off its stand. The stand is made of 2" x 4" lumber and is set on casters. I would include the stand with the press. This sale has to be "Pick Up" only.
Making and using this was a labor of love but I am getting too old to manhandle it. Unlike me it still has decades of life ahead of it!
