These phenomenal shelves were erected in the 1940s, during the "Cold War" with the Soviet Union, by Citibank, N.A.in a present day underground humidity and temperature-controlled world-wide storage facility.  Here, canned micro-film, which was developed in the adjoining darkrooms, was housed.  The shelving has been well-kept and is in
excellent "like new" condition
.
The Army green finish has mellowed uniformly over the years.  Strength, durability and extremely sturdy "construction features" stand up in high-activity areas.  T-beam uprights are 1/8" thick and 1-1/2" wide.  The shelves, which are 1-1/4" thick, adjust in 1-1/2" increments.  They are secured by 8 nuts and bolts per shelf and clamps (patent # 3-13-18).  The underside edges of the shelves are reinforced by additional and continuous steel which is rolled up under the shelf surface.  The shelving is open with rounded edges for ease of sliding material on and off and preventing injury to handlers.
